Help Genesis Home staff clean, organize, and prepare a recently vacated room for a new family to move into. Volunteers are needed to remove trash, clean furniture, clean suites, and more. This opportunity may include moderate lifting.
Handyman Projects
Are you good with your hands and have some time to spare? A volunteer is needed to assist with one or several handyman projects .
Genesis Clean Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help keep Genesis Home clean and in orderly condition. On an ongoing basis volunteers are needed to assist the facilities manager with cleaning the public areas of the facility. Volunteers will perform various cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Other duties may include:
· Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
· Gather and empty trash.
· Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
· Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
· Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
· Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
· Clean Genesis Home vehicles
· Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
Short Term Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteer Drivers
At least 3 dedicated volunteers are needed to assist GH residents who are currently without transportation. Volunteers are needed to transport residents to and from the grocery store and Laundromat on Saturday mornings. All volunteers must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver’s identification.
Volunteer Department Administrative Assistant ( volunteer)
The Volunteer Department is seeking a dedicated volunteer to assist with administrative work, one to two days per week. A volunteer with great attention to detail, a keen eye for organization, and excellent computer skills is needed to help the Volunteer Coordinator with data entry, filing, and other general administrative duties. Additional qualifications include: must be at least 18 years of age, moderate knowledge of Microsoft software, able to adhere to a schedule (agreed to by the volunteer and the assignment supervisor).
Create a Volunteer Database & Management System
A skilled volunteer is needed to help create a comprehensive volunteer database and management system. We are seeking a volunteer database administrator to develop features in this database including: data entry fields, queries and tables and report systems. The volunteer(s) should have full knowledge and experience in developing database with MS Access, familiarity with working in a small non-profit, strong organizational skills and follow-through and attention to detail.
Organize Genesis Home's Donation Storage Closet
Each week new donations are received at Genesis Home from generous community supporters. Items such as household products, personal care products and paper goods are donated and they need to be sorted and organized. The volunteer will maintain an inventory of items, keep them organized and remove expired items.
Food Shuttle Volunteer
A volunteer is needed to receive food donations from the Food Shuttle every other Friday. The volunteer will sort the food, check for food safety and help distribute to our families.
Long Term Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteer Tutors for School-aged Residents
Do you have a passion for helping at-risk youth succeed academically? Dedicated volunteers are needed to help school-aged Genesis Home residents with their homework assignments, upcoming tests, or school projects. Our Learning Program seeks volunteers who can serve one or more evenings a week, from 6 pm - 7pm. The Learning Program resumes September 7, 2011. Volunteers should have some basic knowledge of core subjects and the ability to commit for the academic term or the entire school year.
Math Tutors for Adult Residents
Volunteers are needed to tutor Genesis Home adult residents in math who have returned to school or are working to get their GED. Volunteers are asked to commit to tutoring one or more nights per week through the end of the term/semester.
Circles of Support
Form a group that provides support to formerly homeless families/individuals moving into permanent housing. Mentor a family or individual over a period of 12 months with the goal of helping them to sustain their housing and enhance their quality of life. Circles of Support is designed to help end homelessness in our community.
Genesis Home Project Leaders
Energized, organized, and committed volunteers are needed to serve as Genesis Home’s Project Leaders (PLs). PLs are vital to the success of service/group projects taking place at Genesis Home. PLs serve as the liaison between the volunteers and the department staff. The PL provides organization and leadership for service projects by maintaining ongoing communication: fielding and responding to calls from interested volunteers, working with GH staff and project partners to confirm projects, and ensuring that projects run smoothly. The PL is also responsible for making sure that volunteers sign in for every project and that sign in sheets are returned to the GH Volunteer department. Most importantly, the PL is a Leader - which means team builder, problem solver, and cheerleader for each project.
Academic Coach
Help build confidence, motivation and self-reliance in a high school student, who resides at Genesis Home, through individualizing the teaching and implementation of study strategies to the student’s needs and style. Help the student learn to work smarter, not harder. A volunteer academic coach is needed to work one-to-one to help develop individual strategies to increase the student’s capacity to understand classroom lectures, complete homework assignments, and prepare for upcoming tests.

Additional Opportunities Include:
· Youth Enrichment Night Volunteers (Mondays from 7-8:30 pm)
· Family Engagement Night Volunteers (Thursdays from 7-8:30 pm)
· Activities may include: Volunteers preparing and serving a nourishing meal to the residents, facilitating a game night, organizing a movie night, outdoor activities, etc.
· Weekend Activities Volunteers (Times vary)
