Family Mattersremains our largest program, with a capacity to serve twelve families in our transitional housing facility. Family Matters helps individual families identify and overcome the root causes of their homelessness while taking a holistic approach to teaching life skills essential to obtaining and retaining permanent housing. Families live at Genesis Home for a length of time ranging from four months to two years; however the average stay at Genesis Home is about six months. Even after a family’s transition into permanent housing, Genesis Home case managers continue to provide case management services to help ensure they stay on track to achieve long-term independence.
While they're here, we help:
increase the family's earning potential
develop each parent's life management skills
promote physical, emotional and spiritual health
encourage healthy familial relationships
develop ongoing support systems in the community
Application process Genesis Home holds interviews when there are openings in the program. If there are two adults in the family, both must attend the interview. At the end of the first interview, if the parent is still interested in the program, s/he is given a list of steps that need to be completed prior to moving in.
Suites are offered to families on a "first come, first served" basis. All parents participating in Family Matters must be enrolled in or attending school/job training and looking for work or already working. Families must be actively working or enrolled in an educational program within 30 days of entering the program. Pregnant women who are "high risk," very close to their due date, or who have given birth are exempt per doctor’s orders.
Supportive services such as mental health and substance abuse counseling/treatment are provided by community agencies. Family Services Coordinators work closely with these agencies to make sure we give the best possible support to program participants.
Genesis Home introduces a new program for a new decade:
The overall objective of our programming is to end homelessness by providing temporary housing for families and young people while equipping them with the necessary tools for successful living through support services; mental health, substance abuse domestic violence , financial literacy, basic living skills, intensive case management, and job readiness and career counseling and guidance.
